Explore Bangkok Like A Local! Non-Touristy Things To Do In Bangkok

Many times, we travel to world-renowned tourist places and visit those locations which are for tourists. But often the adventure really starts when you go off the beaten path to see something a bit different.

Let’s explore how you can do that.

Wander Through The Streets

Lose the guidebook and start exploring your local neighborhood through its streets. Visit local shops and markets; follow the sights and sounds;  stop for some street food and just eat whatever looks good to you. This is the best way to experience the city.

Bangkok is a street food heaven and you’ll be able to find many pocket-friendly outlets with good food on the go.

Be sure to have your phone fully charged though so you can get directions should you need them.

Find Shops & Markets

Get absorbed in Thai culture by visiting local markets and shops. Forget Chatuchak and visit Rot Fai night market in Srinakarin instead – this is where young Bangkokians like to hang out.

Other non-touristy markets include Bangkok Farmers Market, Khlong Toei Market, and Pak Khlong Talat (flower market).

Rent a Bicycle

If you have the physique and capacity to ride bicycles, this is one of the most enjoyable activities. No, we don’t recommend riding in jam-packed heavy traffic areas. However, you can visit Bang Krachao, also known as the green lung of Bangkok. Enjoy cycling on the spacious roads and elevated pathways in the forest areas.

Other places to visit for cycling include Lumpini Park, Rama IX park, and Chatuchak park.

Visit Locations Ideal For A Day Trip

You can always have the option of day-tripping by visiting locations based on the outskirts of cities. Here we have narrowed down some spots for you in Bangkok.

  • Asian Institute Of Technology

Drive for 45 mins towards Pathumthani to visit this beautiful green campus exhibiting natural beauty in all senses. It is a perfect place to relax and get rejuvenated.

  • Samut Prakan

Visit this place to witness the culture of Bangkok with historic beautiful temples and museums. This place is also home to seaside resorts. Drive for 30kms to the south of Bangkok to reach this place.

  • Nakhon Pathom

Travel 56kms from Bangkok to visit this place to witness many religious sites. The landmark “Phara Pathom Chedi” is located here, symbolizing the embracing of Buddhism in Thailand.

To Conclude

Other activities you can do is visit the Airplane Graveyard; learn Muay Thai or attend local events, provided you have enough time.
